How It Started

I began as a carpenter with a fully accredited apprenticeship behind me. For years, that was the work—clean, direct, skilled labor. But around 15 or 20 years ago, friends and family started asking if I could finish their basements. A neighbor needed more than just walls. Another wanted a real space. So I took on a few side projects, learning as I went.

The work grew because we did it right. We showed up, communicated what we found, explained what needed to happen next. No guessing. No surprise bills. People told their friends. Friends told their friends. Eventually, we brought on employees. Then we had to choose: keep growing the business the traditional way—add managers, add overhead, add layers between us and the work—or stay lean and run it differently.

We chose to self-perform everything. No project managers watching from an office. No salesforce spinning the same pitch over and over. That decision is still how we operate. It keeps prices honest and communication direct.

What We've Learned
